H1 plow beam

I have a John Deere H1 plow and the beam has a "dogleg", meaning it's not a straight offset from front to back. Was it engineered like that?

Thank you!

JD made that plow so you could install two different sizes of moldboards on that same plow. For example, if the plow is set up for 2-14" moldboards, you could switch the frames around and you could go with two 16" moldboards. It was a good idea but a lot of work to do so.

?? The H1 mounted plow for the H tractor is a single bottom plow. Are you thinking of the other two bottom pull type plows?

Whoops! I didn't look closely to see the H tractor info! Yes, I was thinking about a JD 2-14" trailer plow I once had.

So, just to confirm, your "beam", which is offset, has a dogleg to it as well? I'm wondering if it was engineered to have it?

Mine's the same way, Dave. I think it's bent, maybe from trying to turn left with the plow down. I plowed some a long time ago and land side of the plow was not running straight with the furrow. Didn't turn the surface clean. Is the center of the bend right where it rubs the drawbar frame?

Thanks Mike, that makes sense and the bend is about where it would hit the drawbar. I don't think its worth straightening and besides, its part of the history of the plow. I do have a copy of the manual but thanks for asking.

Have a great day!
