Hello,
I am clearing 15 acres of previously farmed land that was let go about 20+ years ago. I am doing the major clearing with an excavator, but I am ending up with a LOT of small (6-12inch) root balls in the ground from saplings and brush.
The only tractor I own is a Massey 596 which is a 100hp 4wd tractor that normally pulls my White 508 4*16 plow with no problem.
I am wondering if the Athens Model 300 disc plow might be a better option for cutting up and burying all the roots and sticks that are all over this land. There is one for sale right now for not too much.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I owned a heavy AC Athens disc plow years ago,

The plow will cut roots and flip out rocks, it will plow where old solid beam plows fear to tread,

But if you are wanting all this debris cover, I do not think the plow will do that,
A disc plow leaves the ground much rougher than a regular flat bottom plow

Use the disc plow, then disc it down, then run a spring tooth field cultivator over the ground,

The spring tooth cultivator will collect the cut roots much like an old team hay rake, Either pick them up or maybe front end loader with manure
forks might work,

Lot of options, but most will require some manual labor, maybe hire some high school kids to pick them up,

I have seen my old disk plow kick out some large rocks and roots over the years,

I still see some manual labor involved in this operation,

Thanks for the advice-- but they man with the plow will only sell it locally in Texas. Says he doesn't have time to put it on a truck?

some 25 years ago I reclaimed some ground that had been growing up for at least 25 years. After stumping and maybe some discing, I went over it with my spring harrow. It did pretty well gathering roots and small branches. I had each kid assigned to spend an hour on it after school each day, and I think that Saturday we burned all the roots and branches.
