I have looked at several Model M drills along with owners manuals and I cannot find these cone style gears for settings. Has anyone else seen it and can you give me a suggest on what to set them at for different grains. Thanks!!!

Also is there a serial number somewhere so I could find out what year it is?

That is exactualy what I was trying to describe to you as for hoe to do the settings. You see that single gear, look straight up from it and you should see that round hole about an inch in diameter, lift up against the spring that holds it down and then slide it in one direction or the other to get the rate settings you want. What do you want the settings for in the grain, too many to list for all the crops it can plant. After I get that I can give you settings. And the other information it was just painted on the back side of the box, if any paint left on it will me covered. And those drills were made in Canada. Late 40's to early 50's. No way to tell exact year.

I have a 13 run McCormick/IH drill out in the shed . Planted grain with it for many years , Usually 100 lb per acre For Oats and Barley. I simply started in on what I new was a acre , with a bag of grain in the drill. If it ran out before the acre was planted , I slowed it down. If I had some left , I sped it up. Good old drills .

There are 10 settings on the part you show but there are others that you have to consider and all the crops listed to give all the crop settings would probably be close to 75 different settings so to give you settings without crop you are wanting would be just too much typing to do. Just counted up and 280 different settings listed for 20 different crops. That is why I need to know what crop you want settings for. Some might require parts you may not have.

I would be using it to plant a mix of Canadian wheat, wild rye and maybe some other fluffy grass seeds like Indian grass. In the seeder it will be some of the flowers and such for a CRP mix if and when next year I can get it renewed.

Leroy, any way to scan or take a picture of whatever you are referencing for the seeding chart? Seems there is very little info out there on this type of seeder, it doesn't show up on Internet searches. Would be good to gphave that info out there for folks trying to restore the old stuff.

What I have I think would do it IF I KNEW how to do it. Don't even know how to put a disk in computor. I have had copys of books made for people if they pay the cost of macing them but then I have to send by snail mail.

I would sure be happy to pay for a copy of some of information you have for this drill. I have bought 2 owners manuals now and neither of them have anything in them about this type of setting or even pictures of it on a drill. So I am in a complete guessing game on how to even come close to setting it up to drill any seed at all. Some of the seed I might be putting in the ground may be quit expensive and guessing is not good for this type of seed.
