Kubota disc mower conditioners

Anyone have experience running one of these.I'm looking at a new 9 foot model.Dealer told me Kubota bought Kneverland and Vicon and incorperated some of their designs into their new mowers such as a three blades per disc rather than two.Kinda like Kubotas version of the tine impeller conditioner.

The three blade per disc is a Vicon design, I looked at one several years ago.
A few years ago when Kabota first introduced their disc mower it was nothing more than a repainted Vicon (quoted directly from a Kobata sales rep).
I purchased a new 9 ft Kuhn that year and haven't looked at any of the newer machines to see if changes have been made.
I do like the three blade design.

Yes - Kubota got into the hay tools business buying Kneverland/Vicon. They are not really incorporating anything, the Vicon mower conditioners are painted orange and have Kubota decals on them. If you are good with google, you can find both Kubota and Vicon brochures online and maybe the Vicon manual too.

I looked at these moco's and I guess the thing that I didn't like was - (as best as I can recall), there is no "true" shear hub arrangement that can be changed out in a matter of minutes. I've read the 3 blade cutter heads work great and the machines overall need a bit less hp.

I have narrowed my window shopping choices to Krone, JD and New Holland. I particularily like John Deere's moco's. IMHO they are a very simple design and have a reputation for a great cut. The 600 series are now offered with optional steel on steel rollers. That being said, while many will say don't use impellers for alfalfa, there is much testimony that they can be effectively used without significant leaf loss. YMMV.

Good luck,
Bill

Bill, have you seen the latest Kubota moco?Their impeller conditioner is a lot like the Deere.

Paul

I haven't seen one - dealers don't have any right now. From their brochure, yes - the impellers are V shaped like Deere, but in some respects they look like the Krone impeller the way they have a bit of an upturn and appear to lock into position on the roll they are attached. Google the Krone EasyCut 2801CV (I believe that's the impeller version.) I did get a price from the Kubota dealer and they were around $24K for the 9ish footer.

The JD 625 which is an 8ft-2in mower in impellers can be had for under $20K with equal angle hitch. IMHO - it is a very good buy. Don't know how much rollers add and stepping up to the 630 adds a goodly amount of $$$$'s. I think the 625 is kind of the price leader IMHO.

Take everything I say with a grain of salt. I don't own one of these moco's (yet) and am no expert.

Good luck,
Bill

Doesn't Kuhn make Deere's mowers? I know they still make the cutterbars for the straight disc mower's. Not for sure on Mower-conditioners....

Kuhn was one of the original designers of the disc mower, at one time they built the cutter bar for JD, NH and Kuhn brand mowers.
Today JD and NH make their own cutter bars for trailed mowers, NH makes their own mounted mower cutter bars, JD mounted mower cutter bars look similar to Kuhn's but I'm not sure if they're made by Kuhn.
I did stop by Kuhn's display at the Farm Machinery Show to see if they had made any changes to the trailed mowers. They offer rubber rolls, steel on steel rolls and also have a tine conditioner but I didn't really pay much attention to how it was made.
The 9' Kuhn trailed mower I have is just a mower with no conditioner, I prefer a trailed mower over mounted.

I have a neighbor with a Vicon and I don't think I want one. If he drives very fast in heavy hay it plugs constantly. We were helping a
elderly neighbor with a John Deere (Kuhn) and another Kuhn and a Bush hog disc mower, It sorta turned into a competition and the Vicon
couldn't keep up without plugging. I just bought a new GMD 310 I am waiting to use.

Yes, it can strip leaves off of alfalfa but ONLY if the machine is not adjusted correctly. I have a 946 impeller machine and mowed much alfalfa with it and never had any leaf loss due to the impeller. If there was any leaf loss it either happened before the mower got there or the cutter blades would knock some off. The impellers could be set as gentle or aggressive as you wanted. Mike
