Ford Harrow

Folks I'm sure I'm doing a overkill but thought I ask. I've recently gotten my dads old disc harrow out of the woods to do a little harrow work around the farm for dissing in fertilizer/grass seed, smoothing land out, firebreaks, etc. well I've busted two discs that will Need to be replaced. Also has some previous damage to the arms/joints I'll have to work out. From what I can find is FORD MFG M73 which I assume is the model?however was not able to find info on a ford model M73 disc ? Any information on it would be appreciated

Describe a bit more. Is it 3Point? Wheel Carried? 2 gangs or 4? Drag type? Any paint left, if so what blue or red? Number of blades per gang? Spacing between blades? Size of current blades? All this will help idetenify model.

should be able to pick up a replacement disc blade or two easy enough, I used to get reasonable priced ones from my jd dealer,, BUT you need to know what is breaking them,, LIFT the dice when turning and make sure it is running Level or you will just break more, also you could check with SHOUP mfg they will have want you need as well

it's a 3 pt hitch, has 4 disc on front arms and 5 disc on rear arms. As far as paint I'm thinking maybe red but this think hasn't seen paint in awhile. I snap a pic and add it to thread later

There are a round and square holes in the disk blades of a couple different sizes. You likely have a square hole.

There is disk and cone (looks more like a flat bottomed wok), I'd guess yours is disk.

Disk blades are a common thing.

There are several sizes, from maybe 16 inch to 22 inch plus.

A place like Shoup can match up what you have. The trouble is, your blades are probably worn down. So do you replace all of them with full
sized blades (it will cut better!) or do you buy blades that match whatever yours are worn down to? You might not be able to match, and even a
1/2 inch difference will be noticeable some.

Ford likely did not make that disk, they just ordered them and put their name on them.

Are you hitting tree roots, or ice chunks, or big rock, or what is breaking the blades? That gets expensive after a while, best to figure it out and
try not to do that again.

Up here they are called disks, down south they are called disk harrows or sometimes just harrow like you did. We have harrows that is just a
spike tooth drag, so talking about these implements is sometimes confusing. ;)

Yeah farmer friend from down the road said same thing, don't worry so much about the orginial manufacturer. It be nice but in the end just take the part(s) you need replacing, go to a tractor store and match parts up. Once you do get them replaced write down the make/model/size of part for next time. He's recommending replacing all the discs that are broke/worn down and while the arms are off go ahead and replace the the bearings to as doesn't look like any maintence has been done in awhile. However so far I've had to bust all 4 bolts on U joints just to get one arm off. This is not gonna be a easy (or cheap) repair!

As said below, there were a couple different
types of disc blades for those.

The real old ones had a 7/8" square hole in
them and are getting hard to find as most of
the later discs use a 1 1/8" square hole.
Where are you located? I have several of the
old 7/8" ones that I won't use anymore.
They are up at my property in central MN.
Would let you have them for a 12 pack of
Summit Pale Ale. Wont be going up there till
May though when I go up to plow the gardens.
My email should be open.
