Looking for ideas on this baler to help when baling stalks. It works sort of ok but I was wondering if anybody did a modification in the wind guard area that they would share. My ideas are a roller in front of the wind guard or build a new wind guard with flat bars instead of round ones.Last fall I baled without the guard that worked not to bad but I think a roller in there to keep the fluff down would help. Thanks Bob

Local NH salesman dropped off literature on new round balers a couple days ago. The new ones are available as 'specialty crop' models, for straw and corn stalks. Those versions use a roller wind guard.

When we bale corn stalks with JD or NH balers we take the wind guard off. You have to keep the pickup FULL. In smaller windrows that means SPEED. Corn stalks do not feed in as well as hay as it does not stick together like hay does. So you have to keep the pickup crowded against the windrow.
