Deere 920 discbine/flail conditioner

Anybody with experience running one of these.I have a older 1327 moco impeller machine that I use now.It's a good machine and really cuts the hay.Wondering how much better is the 920 model?So what do you guys think get a Deere a Kuhn or NH or ?.Deere and Kuhn dealers are nearby.Would prefer a good used machine rather than new tho.There is both used Deere and Kuhn machines for sale nearby.I know my old Deere 1327 uses a Kuhn cutterbar.Guess my question is how do the newer Deere and Kuhn machines compare.

I have a Deere 920 with rolls and like it much better than the two NH 411's I had before. A NH 1411 is probably just as good of a machine but they usually sell for more than the Deere. Do not buy a NH 411 or 415 as the parts are way overpriced. My NH dealer told me to get rid of mine no matter what color I chose to replace it.The 920 is much easier to work on than the NH as well. The only thing I do not like about the Deere is that it has a end in the cutterbar where the NH does not and sometimes it will drag up hay when cutting point rows where the NH a lazy person could mow all day and never raise the machine. Due to the tongue design the two machines corner totally different and it took some getting use two when changing over. I never was a fan of flails but some people like them. Tom

Dry gears run the flails check them to see how sharp they are take thousands of acre for them to fail but those machines are 20 plus years old so they have been around also they take HP to run won't be happy with less then a hundred in front of it. They mow nice and run for a long time also check tongue for crack.

We bought a 920 with flail conditions. Used it for 2 full seasons now. Not one issue except for the occasional broken/bent knife. I do think the ones with roll conditioners will dry alfalfa a little quicker. 1/2 dayish depending on weather. A friend has one of those. But flails seem quicker drying in fine stemmed stuff/grass. All in all, don't regret buying it a bit. Wish I would have bought one sooner. Big upgrade over the old jd 1600 we replaced. It does take ponies as others have said. It will make a 4320 know it's back there in very heavy first cutting. Doesn't over work it by any means, but does put a load on it. Seems like a well built machine.

Have had one 10+ years and have done nothing to it except maintain it regularly. Been a very good machine with I'm sure many more years of service in it yet. I use a JD 4020 diesel as main tractor on it, 886 IH can handle it fine too. Anything smaller and the tractor just can't handle it very well.

I want to say mine is a 925 (I know there isn't a "0" at the end) 12 footer. It is a great machine. Keep sharp knives on it and it takes a LOT less horsepower. I can run it with the IH 886 in a pinch but usually run the 4440 or 7800 Deere. It is a great machine and very versatile with the amount that you can have the flails condition. I have run thousands of acres through it and have had no major repairs. I had the dealership replace the drive belt as you have to take out the gearbox to do it and I just wasn't up for it. It was the original belt, though. It was showing some cracking and I didn't want a breakdown. I broke the swing cylinder this year when the outboard wheel fell in a wheel. On closer look it had been cracked half way through by the clevis and ran that way for some time. That wasn't a cheap repair, but I blame that on that stupid wash out and the fact that I should have left it down. It would have slid right over it.

With sharp knives I can mow just as fast as I dare to drive. I would be lost without it. They do take lots of horsepower.

Bought a 930 with impellers last year, but have been running the hydraswing Deeres for 15 years plus now. I personally love the Deeres, built tough and handle just about anything in front of them. They do use power though, but I fell they cut just as good as the NH's and little better than the Agcos. As for the impellers, we cut all types of hay, and I like them, one farm I drive for likes the rolls better, and the other farm likes the impellers. Both grow all Alfalfa.

I'll second what Tom said. I've got the 920 disc-bine. Have you seen the videos on u-tube with it? Their mowing at like 7mph with it, definetly a thing of beauty.
I've used a NH-411 and the 920 mo-co. I do like both. The 920's a little bigger I believe with a 9'9" cut. Also built a little stouter. Tongue,rolls,drivelines, etc. it's width is 11'9" making it a pain in the a#% on some gates. No fold up door. Is what it is. Jd parts are pricey but most are still available for the unit.
I'm looking forward to properly running it this year. I didn't have the horsepower. Hoping to pull it off with a mf 175 this year. I do believe the 4020 like others have said would be the cats "meow". I'm partial to conditioners but that's what's always came my way.
I think I'd prefer the Deere cutter bar over Kuhn. The next series had some horror stories so I've heard. ????
