Fella rotary rake

Local guy is selling his Fella rotary rake for a reasonable price. I like the windrow they leave. Never having operated one, how do they perform in tight corners? Can you control the speed of the rotor with hydraulic flow? I've been using a NH 57 3 point rake and it has served me well, but I have a couple fields that are really heavy and the NH twists the windrow and the baler likes to eat it all at once. anyone have experience with a rotary?

Not used a fella, I have a kuhn, and every rotary take I've ever seen is PTO powered, so rake speed can be varied by engine RPMS, although you will probably find that slowing the rake down lowers performance.
Ours is good in corners, has a CV joint type PTO on the tractor end, that allows it to turn really sharp without binding.
Check the cam and rollers on the rake arms as they do wear over time. Hopefully the last owner knew what a grease gun was and used it, I'd be scared of one that was not greased often enough, look for signs of old grease around the arms and PTO.
In heavy crop just slow your forward speed, it should rake the ground clean in. Make sure that the machine is leveled for the tractor operating it, we have to relevel ours if we change tractors, if it's not level it won't make a good job.

Thank for the reply. How big a tractor did you pull that rake with? This one is a 10' and they say it takes 40 hp. I'd love to be able to pull it with my 35 hp Kubota and leave the bigger tractors on the mower and baler.
