Hydrolic Cylender IH 370

Good Morning!

I have inherited a International 37 or 370 that is missing the cylinder. What size/length cylinder is recommended for this plow. I had one off another disk I scrapped years ago but it is WAY too long. I can get close enough by measuring but just want to know what they originally had.

Thanks in advance.

Also about half the disk are in rough shape. I know 18" was what it had. Just want to know if it would handle 20" that are worn to 19" just on the front two gangs. I will be plowing in sandy loam soil. This is a 12 foot disk by the way.

I appreciate the input.

You should use a 3" diameter piston with an 8" travel. The rod should be at least an inch thick. Many years ago we bent an old Oliver cylinder that had a 3/4 inch thick rod on a 14 foot 37 disk.

Thank you,

I had another cylinder 3/4" thick and was afraid it might not be quite enough. I plan on adding some weight to it as well for one of my fields with tighter soil.

The 37 was an older version of the 370 and the 37 was avaible new from factory with 16", 18" or 20" blades so 20" will work. The thickness could be your problem if you get the newer blades that are thicker than toe orignal with making the gang bolt too short. If the bolt is not too short you might still have to loosen the outer bearings to move then slightly to position the bearing to spool corectly. If I remember corectly they would be what is now a 3.5MM blade with some of the early ones using a 3.0MM blade. Some new 20" blades are now 1/4" thick. A 12' machine it will make more difference than if it was an 8 or 9' machine. So just check thickness before you buy the blades, may or may not be a problem.
