I was able to finally find two 16 slot corn plates that fit my John Deere 25-B planter.

plastic plate are getting a bit hard to find.

I was able to buy a B1 x 16X plate
B9 x 16 plate

I could not find a set of two matching plates, but it appears my small irregular shaped triple sweet corn seed will fit in the slots of these two plates.

I will give them a test trial in my shop as soon as the weather warms some.

wonder how many old plate planters have been taken to the scrapper with a good set of plates still inside.
plates worth more than the planter.

A store here in Wytheville, VA (S&W Fertilizer, Seed and Chemical - 276-228-2521) has some plastic planter plates hanging on the wall that are for sale. They told me that they fit JD and AC planters. Don't know if they fit your planter?

In the Amish area of Indiana that I get to a store there has them all hanging from their ceiling joists for both the Deere and McCormick for any grade corn or beans you would want. Where are you located?

I have over 500 planter plates some the AC/JD plates others are the Cole Planter plates have many of them hanging from the rafters on my side porch for decoration and when I need one its easy to pick out.

Might want to check eBay, just found 4 sunflower seed plates and filler rings for a total of $44.00. If I had bought new from Lincoln Ag it would have been $150.00 plus shipping.

You guys are right, there probably are many corn plates hanging around in old barns somewhere,
I just wanted to be able to insure my irregular shaped sweet corn seed would fit in the plate slots before I bought or ordered the plates,
I had my seed with me and they did fit the plates I bought, so I may be good to go,

Do you mean you have just the 2 plates? Or do you have a pair of each?

The B1-16X is for medium round seeds, is orange colored.
The B9-16 for small flat seeds, is pink colored. That B1 will overplant most sweet corn seeds.

No shortage of plastic plates in this world...they sell for 50 cents, or less, at auctions of farms owned by old or deceased farmers thru out the Midwest. Lots of plates hanging on nails in old machine sheds, barns or work shops. City dudes often bid up the prices because they think the plates are cute and make good wall ornaments.

It takes a lot of acres to wear a plastic plate to where it is too thin. Most have a "wear hole" along the edge...if you can see thru the hole then it is worn out, better toss it.

Wrong plates or worn out plates can make a good planter look bad.

LA,
I could only get one of each of these 16 slot plates to fit my planter,
Currently I have two matching plates 24 cell for large med field corn that plants my small seed too thick,

And now I have these two 16 cell plates that appear to fit my small irregular shaped triple sweet, sweet corn seed,

The local used equipment dealer had hundreds of old plates but only a few plates that fit the John Deere planter I bought the only two that would fit my small seed,

As soon as it warms up I will pull the planter in the shop and give the plates a test to be sure they work,

Maxwell,
Do you have an operator's manual for that planer? A manual will give you the "driven" and "driver" sprocket settings you need for various plant populations. A 24 cell plate needs different sprocket settings than what is needed for a 16 cell.

However, most little 2 row planters were built long ago when plant populations were very low compared to today's populations, so most likely the sprockets were set for 16 cell as back then very few 24 cell plates were used. Using a 24 cell plate with a planter set for 16 cells will result in way too high of plant populations...the seed drops will be too close together. Again, I suggest you order a manual from the JD dealer so you are not guessing at what you are trying to do. Just trying different plates is only half the battle.
