IH 470 Disk Question

I purchased a 14 ft. IH 470 disk 2 years ago. Problem is that it has 14 inch 4-bolt rims on it. I would like it to lift a bit higher by putting larger tires on it, like 7-50 16 inch tires. But I can't find any 4-bolt 16 inch wheels. I asked my farm tire supplier and he said there are no 16" 4-bolt rims in any of his wheel catalogs. Another option might to replace the 4-bolt hubs with 6-bolt hubs. But I can't figure out if IH has any 6-bolt hubs from some other implement that would work on the existing 470 axles.

Anybody have any ideas on finding 4-bolt 16" wheels or replacement 6-bolt hubs. Thanks. Al

A few years ago I bought a IH 330 disk that had 14 inch rims with bad tires, did not have any 14 inch tires on hand but I did have 2 16 inch four bolt rims off of a IH 91 combine that fit with good tires. Just search used equipment lots and other places and you may get lucky and find what you need.

I have the same disc , and it is on 16"tires . Often wondered how old the darn old thing is , and what tractors were supposed to pull it when the disc was new. I have had my disc for over 20 years , and it looked old then . I have replaced just about everything on it at least once, discs , bearings , scrapers , tires , the list goes on . Bruce

If you can't locate 4 hole 16'' rims or correct hubs for 6 bolt you could cut spindle off & weld on 6 bolt hub & spindle available from any good ag parts supply business. I know there were some 4 bolt 15'' implement wheels made.

Just try 15" with 235-75Rx15" tires, easy avaible and you would be supprised at how much better it would lift. And those 15" you are thinking just might not clear the frame when you get them on.

That's actually what I am using now. Had a set of 15" wheels from a JD plow that have the old style narrow 83 series Michelin 215-15 15 radial tires. It appears that any larger size like 235-75 R15 would not clear the frame. This helped over the 14 inch but I thought some old 16 inch truck tires like 700-16 would help even more. Thanks for the reply. Al

It looks like the 370 and 470 disks first showed up in my 1967 IH Buyers Guide. So that would make the early ones at least 50 years old. Depending the on the size, I think they would have been pulled by the 706 and 806 tractors. The 470 in the 1967 Guide is being pulled by an 806. Al

Thanks for the reply. My dad had a 91 IH combine but it had 15 inch 4-bolt wheels. Our IH 93 combine had 16 inch wheels, but they were 6-bolt. So I will start looking in our local implement junk yard and see if I can find some 4-bolt 16 inch. Maybe the hubs from an IH 93 might also work. I have an old IH dealer near me that still has the old parts books and they might show if the bearings are the same. Al

I looked on the IH parts page for the 370 disk and found that both 4-bolt and 6-bolt wheels were used. It appears that all the bearings, seals, washers, and nuts are the same except that the spindles have a different part number. So maybe 6-bolt hubs from a junk disk might or might not work. I guess it would depend if the spindle length is the same for both hubs. Al

I have 2 16 rims with 7.00 tires on them I would sell. Came off a int plow. Zip is 14477 e-mail is open.
