Ferguson 2 Row Planter

I came across a 2 row Ferguson planter ARO-B-60
I was wondering if it's adjustable row spacing?
Also, there isn't much info on these from what I can find. Are they considered collectible and worth $$?

Pretty sure the only people buying old two row planters are ones putting in food plots or wannabe farmers with 10 acres. Maybe someone that wants a yard decoration, in either case doubt they would be willing to pay very much for one.

Been seeing IH and JD 3 point 2 row planters here in the KC area in good condition running about $200 - $400 depending on how many plates are with them.

So not a high dollar one for sure.

Around here they are $500 to $1000 for a decent two row. I bought one a month ago that was usable, nothing great for $400 and sold it for $500 before I left. It was a JD 246. A AC at a local auction brought $750.

If you're wanting a planter to actually use keep in mind that you'll need to get the proper seed plates for it. Once you get away from Deere or IH (or Allis, which can use Deere plates with an adapter) these plates get much harder to find. With Deere and IH you can easily find plates to plant just about anything.

I would have to do some checking on model. Is it the version that the unit is driven with a chain from press wheel axle or is it the version that each unit is belt driven from a press wheel. The belt driven unit is a tool bar mount, the chain driven is not. NO plates avaible anyplace and they measure 11" in diameter. I had a belt driven model for a while that I bought out of a parts yard just for shows, sold it to a friend that is a big collector and he had a chain driven version.

I don't know for sure and don't think I have a manual on that model planter. I would guess that it would be adjustable in the 36" to 42" range but do not know. That model was not a tool bar model so would be harder to change. Those seed plates are 11" diameter and no other company used that plate except possibly a Massey that was built same time as the Ferguson after Ferguson and Massey joined. I might have seen a Massey one time from a distance. Years ago there were a few Ferguson planters around as we had a good Ferguson dealer but everything is long gone. That Ferguson dealer would be now about a 110 years old. Remember those planters would be in age from 1948 to 1957

If you have some plates for that planter, or know of a source for them, then you might have a nice unit. If no plates then it might just become a yard ornament. Old JD and IH planters bring good money because those plates are easily found...or you can guy them from Lincoln Ag Products. I suggest you talk to the people at Lincoln Ag and see what they have before buying the planter. 402-464-6367.
