Hoping someone here can identify this planter I bought. My first time posting with an I phone so I hope I can get the pic through. Thanks for any replies.

JDV,
The base planter looks like my John Deere model 25-B
but your has many options that mine does not have.

That is where I would start, look up model 25-B, should show options that were available.
I think my planter was made in the late 50's or early 60's

Looks in good shape. Once you ID it, head over to ebay and get manuals. They will describe the options that are on it. If not, then try to find a brochure from a dealership. These are great resources for use and/or restoration. Do yourself a favor and find a spot indoors for it.

I know very little about those unit type planters as they were never used in my area. Think more vegetable areas. I do know from my thousand manual colection tho that the tool bar is not covered in the planter operator or parts manuals. I do not know if yours are chain or belt drive units . The Ferguson that I had just as a colectable item for shows was a belt drive and would have been almost impossible to get both rows to plant at the same rate as you changed the width of the pullys to set planting rate so getting things set exact I think would have been impossible. Go to JD parts lookup site and type in planters and you should be able to come up with the parts books to identify your units. As far as the toolbar I don't know, possibly type in toolbar?
