Uses for drop spreader?

I just bought a 10' New Idea drop spreader for lime. At this point I'm just looking to do a few food plots totaling about an acre. Will also be dropping lime in the yard. What other uses might they be good for? I think the drop holes are spread about 7" and open a couple inches. Would it work well for fertilizer? Seems anything it would put down would be in rows. My current plan for food plot is buckwheat in summer and clover/WR over fall thru spring. Can it spread those?

a roller is a must if you want a good seed germination.

I think my spreader is a new Idea 12ft model

one thing to remember, lime is very dense and heavy, do not put too much in the spreader at a time, if ground is rough you must go slow or you could bend the frame.

I think they were designed more for fertilizer or maybe wheat seed etc.
I believe you would be better off with a true seed spreader for the smaller seed.

just my two cents.

I also have a roller/packer. I was thinking the same thing with smaller seed.

I agree with wellmax99 on the lime. If you are just doing your yard and small plots I would buy pelleted lime and ag lime. The pellets should work in your seeder.

Refurbbed this Deere LF-10 a couple of years ago. IIRC the manual listed fertilizer, lime, sand, and even grass seed. The seed was distributed by a seed box that attached on the back side. Also listed plates that could be used to block off the individual ports the product dropped through. Wish I'd a kept it. Fella that bought it called me back to tell me how good it worked.

I sold two last year and the one was like new inside and had settings for seeding oats on the inside wrote in pencil.I do not think it ever had fertilizer or lime in it. It also had grass seed attachment. Tom

Have the same machine, an LF 10 JD. Actually have one for parts too. I spread fertilizer pellets with mine, works very well.

Hardly anything better to sow brome or orchardgrass. Don't need any special seed box for them but have to guesstimate the setting
initially then mark well for future use.
