New Holland 271 Baler...........

I have a 70"s model New Holland 271 baler, still working good. I have a small problem - the safety shield, which is "steel", has one end that is flopping around and noticed the bearing /bushing is out- no good. Can anyone tell me what the part is that goes in these shields; I thought at first is was a "roller bearing" but now think maybe it is some type of bushing. I really want to keep the original metal shield on this baler- and fix it...but no one locally - including the dealer, can find the part for the shield. Please help ! Thanks!

There's a nylon bushing (the 'bearing') a flat steel thrust washer, and a retaining ring. All readily available.

ok sounds good....thanks...so I need "one" of each? Is the first number the bushing? I will call my dealer tomorrow and try to order these. Thanks! Kc

My self when that happens to me I remove the shield because I have found depending on them is as bad as not having one. I too use a NH271 and when I got it, it had not been used in years so I brought it back to life out of a grown up fence row

Come on Old, KEEP THAT SORT OF STUFF TO YOURSELF!!!

It is the truth seen to many people get hurt by a PTO that has the shield on it but still gets hung up on a pant leg etc and end up with a person hurt of dead. Only good safety on any thing is what is between ones ears. I learned years ago those PTO shields are a joke at best

Your not worth my time but I have seen many people hurt by PTOs with a shield so I learned that no safety device works period

And again you proved me right this is a waste of my time answer you since I know your not worth it

I did not say you cannot get hurt by a pto driveline even with proper shielding. But to say they are a joke??????

They are just like most stuff that you now have to have on stuff since to many people are just flat out stupid and get hurt because they do not use there brains like the gal who sued McDonald's due to hot coffee. OHSA has cause to many problem due to stupid people and yo uhave prove to me you tend to go in that way

That is great sentence syntax.. lol. Even very intelligent very capable people get complacent or in a hurry and make mistakes.

You know... for someone whos father was a genius college professor and you turning down a few scholarships, what do you have to show for it? You are married, live in a trailer house and from what I gather your mother lives there in another dwelling???? Your the only person I know who is roughly around 60 years of age, with 200 year experience.

First time I ever tried to post an actual web site using "copy" and "paste" and it worked. I'm amazed and hope it may help you. Maybe that's the same site that others used to give you some part numbers.

If you went through all of Old's posts and counted up all the things that he has done "many many times" and multiply them by how long it should take, and add them all up, and divide by forty hours, I am sure that it would total well over 200 years,

Sad that you so bitter and guess your suffer form cabin fever guess your on my no answer list also people like you take away form this site and hurt it not help it

I just thought you truely do live up to your name of 'old' at 200 years old?

Huh.

;)

The OP said he wanted to keep the original shield and asked for place to find the parts. He didn't ask for a lecture with bad advice from the PTO police.

Ok guys....just got on here today - have been off several days. Not sure who "OLD" is? But whomever you are you seem to be "disgruntal"? . Lets keep the posts clean - and respectful...to all. Its a short life and its not worth asking a question on here if people are going to be hurtful to others. The first two posts I receive on this subject DID answer my questions and I have my parts....thanks much to those two guys! If you have a "beef" with another guy....take it out back...but not here! Thanks!

My 271 work good also and still has the shield on it but every one of you miss the point.

MY point is simple if one depends on any safety be it a PTO shield or a gun safety they will sooner or latter get hurt or dead.

One example is a friend of mine shot out a window of his truck this year due to the rifle safety then malfunctioned

SO MY POINT is NO safety device will EVER keep a person safe 100% of the time and most will only do so once in a while

That's OK banjoman, no offense taken. You kind of need to be around any place or thing for awhile to understand the workings. Don't worry you will catch on.
