I have to replace the front blades on my Case disk. I can buy a nice JD. disk for the same price as blades for the one I got. Only thing is the JD. has the "cone" blades. When JD. came out with the cone blades I seam
to recall my Dad saying they won't work as well. But I don't remember what his thinking was. Anybody know why the cone blades won't work as good? Anybody use one?

Cone disk as a rule penetrate the soil better than regular disk. As the cone disk wear their cutting edge remains the same angle unlike spherical(regular) disk which loose angle of cutting edge as they wear. IIRC cone disk plug easier in damp soil if one doesn't have very good scrapers plus scrapers are shaped different for cone vs regular disk.

Those Deere disc with cone blades will cut real well but do not level real well. They also pull a keck of a lot harder. I have a 25' 630 Deere that pull harder than an IH 496 32' does.

I had a 14 foot JD 210 disk with cone blades for many years. They are more aggressive and pull harder. 4020 handled it well, but the 3020 did not. Both had duals.

I mostly use it in the fall. I do not have a disk ripper but use an inline ripper so I disk stalks first then ripper. I pull it in corn stalks with 85 hp. fwa. No duals. If I do any disking in spring I pull it with my Cat. My Case disk=15.5 ft. JD.=18 ft. My Case disk I pull at full angle. If I can't pull the cone disk could I not lessen the angle and still do comparable job?

A lot of JD disks the angle is not adjustable, have no idea about what you are looking at. Have never seen those blades that I remember. Just advertising and they were talked about like replacing a heavy offset disk for primary work.

Yes you could decrease gang angle or lower transport wheels a little to help limit penetration if you changed to cone disk.

I have this exact disc. 16ft. Not sure if this is what you mean by cone blades, but I think so. Our 4320 doesn't know it's back there in corn stalks. An 85hp tractor would handle it fine. Once you get into worked dirt, it puts a little load on it. Doesn't over work it by any means, but might start to have trouble with 85hp, especially in hills/really loose dirt if you run it all the way down. Don't know if that helps you any, but I got to ramble for a minute.

Yes, those are cone blades....rear gang shows the angle. Notice that it is straight, not curved.
