Hesston, Agco / Enorossi Tedder Problems

So the new to me tedder is making grinding sounds , when first engaged, I think its in the right hand side. Sound like the gears are not meshing. Its staying in time and the noise is only going when the PTO is engaged the first couple seconds. The former owner was using it behind a 100 hp Kubota. Is there a maxiumum Hp rating on these little spinners? I prefer to fix things before hay season. Anyone ever repair one like this? Its a 2 spinner Hesston Model 3710. Thanks

Had a four rotor Hesston (made by Enerossi) a few years back. There is a slip clutch on the PTO shaft that will chatter at startup if you engage the PTO to quickly. Try engaging the PTO with the engine at low idle and feather the engagement as much as possible. Should fix it unless the PO tore up the slip clutch with his 100 HP tractor. It only takes maybe 20 HP to run one of these. Those little gearboxes and PTO shaft cannot stand much.

Thanks I will check that out. It makes sense that could be it because the timing between the baskets has not changed. I know it does not take much HP as the Amish are putting small Honda engines on them and pulling them with horses. Thanks

There are bearings in the top and bottom of the spinners. There are also 2 on each side in the tubes that carry the shaft. You might have a dry one.

I have a used Kuhn Tedder. The pinion gears under the 2 outer stars are chewed up pretty bad. I assume it was lack of grease and running like a race car. On mine, the bull gear can be shimmed tighter to the pinion gear.
