The original subject was "Power corn rake".
My father did custom corn shelling over a three county area when I was a young man. I started scooping corn for him when I was 13. Hard, hard work. When I was 15, he got a power rake, not like the one here. It had a channel down the center with 60 rollerchain. Every foot and a half or s there was a crossbar with four 1/2 tines about a foot across. On the end, a pair of round plates about a foot and a half apart with tines on the wheel like spokes. They turned and dug into the crib braking up the corn and bringing it back to the conveyor. It had a pair of adjustable handles and on weeks so I could pull it back and swing it back and forth. The 6 horse gear reduced Briggs engine gave it the power. It was a bear to operate but it could clean out a crib with minimal cleanup. In the mid 60's we shelled 165000 bushel. Seven days a week, 12 hours a day. Hard to feel sympathy today for kids who complain about how tough they've got it. Anyone ever see one like that? We sold the shelter a few years back and I don't have any pictures of it.
