Deere F845 Rollover Plow

Got some questions on a Deere F845 3-16 rollover plow. Just wondering folks" overall opinion of Deere rollovers. Went to look at one that appears in good shape, no welds, has coulters and tail wheels. Are these plows any good? I normally hear more praise for IH and Oliver/White plows.

What would be the approximate weight for a 3-16?

Asking price is $1500, which seems high compared to your non-rollovers, but coulters are good and all wear parts are in great shape.

It looks like they were manufactured 1964-1967 about. I have a 4200 so I am not familiar with a F845. The rollover mechanism is different than my 4200. I have never heard anything bad about them. If you intend to use the plow you need to investigate if you can get parts, especially wear parts. If you get it make sure you find an operators manual so you know how to adjust it.

I love plowing with my 4200 3x18". I can get a lot done in a hurry.

We use rollovers exclusively here.In fact,I have never plowed with a one way plow.LOL All wear parts are readily availablefor both sides on the JDs.I'm not sure if the 'seals' are still available for the turning motor.Check with the dealer to be sure before you buy the plow. The last kit I bought was under $50,Not a 'hard' fix, about 2 hours. The turning motor is often'out' on those old plows. If you can, hook it to your tractor and spin it over. It is 'worthless' as a rollover if it wont turn.IMHO,the JD rollovers tend to pull harder than an IH,and Oliver.you can acctually tell where a JD has plowed, especially when an IH plows becide it.JDs are heavy builtBe aware, your tractor will often pull one less bottom with a rollover. The 845 weighs 800 to 1000 lbs.You will need to add several hundren lbs of front wts.You will like the factthere no crowns and dead furrows. And you can just turn and go right back the same furrow.Over my 40 year career,I have owned 2 JDs(8215;835);Case 200 series No left side parts are available anywhere for the Case),White/Olive 6342;IH 314;642.Like the IH the best.Still have and use the IH.IMHO,IH is the best plow out there

I've an 835 (3x16's) I pull with an 730 standard. In the attached clip it shows up in the beginning and near the end. Not sure of the weight but must be close to a ton. Goggle 'Taylor the Plow Guy', he can supply manuals and parts. I always feel like the red headed step son at a plow day with this rig, no one else is going the 'wrong' way.

Check the roll over motor. You never know what you are going to find when you open one of them up. All of the seals for it are still available for the rollover motor through Deere but if you need other parts, if they are available, will soon add up to more than the cost of the plow. There should be hydraulic restrictors in the lines that go to the rollover motor. They should be of the end of the line that plugs into the tractor, between the hose and the tip. On the F835/845 the restrictors make a 90 degree turn between the tip and the hose. The restrictors keep the roll over speed lower so you do not beat out the guts of the roll over motor. I through in a picture of an F835 and an 825. The F835 is the slat bottomed plow.
Thanks

One other thing I just thought of. The catch roller is usually worn. It is available from Deere for around $220. If you have access to a metal lathe it is easy to make and you can also rework the bracket that is goes onto at the same time.

Our local JD dealer just told me they were built till '71 when the 20 series were discontinued. There were a lot of 4320 and 835 4 bottom sold here.I would immagine they were introduced with the 4010 or 4020 in the early 60s.

I have an 825 - 2/16s that came brand new with a JD 520.
I use it with a Ford 5610 now. I've also used a Ford 145 - 2/16s with a Ford 4000 SU. Rotation on the 145 was much simpler, but not as simple as the AC - 2/16s "spinner plow". Used that one on an AC WD45 diesel.

Tell me more about the AC "spinner" rollover plow. What is the model number and is there a online parts/operators
book?
