Can anyone help me find a replacement gearbox for a New Idea 290 Haybine Mow/ditioner? It is the same as a Ford 535 but I cannot find one of those either. This is still a nice unit and I do not want to scrap it. See attached photo. Thank You

They didn't happen to use the same gearbox as the 270 or 272 Cut/Ditioner did they? It looks like it might be. There were a lot of those built,so it might widen your search.

I've got one off of a MF that I believe is the same. I scrapped one this summer and saved the gearbox and drive shaft. I'm in NNY. Where are you located?

Yes if it was a MF 81 haytender then it was made by New Idea so should be the same except for paint color.

NI also made that machine for Ford at the time- I'm not real sure of the number, but it may have been a Ford #3 Haytender. I had a 290 years ago and I could scrounge parts for it from Ford or Massey dealers. Good old machine from 40 years ago.....

(quoted from post at 00:56:58 12/05/16) Yes I can sell it,but shipping would be terrible.I do not know how heavy Ups can take.Scott

I've heard of guys using Fastenal to ship. You put it on a skid, then dip it off at your local branch. They'll send it to his local branch, and it'll get there when they have room on the truck. Sometimes it's in a few days, other times may take a little bit longer. Beingrthat it's winter, I'm guessing he can wait a little bit.

I'm kinda wishing I didn't throw all the parts we had in with the machine at dad's auction last month. Had an extra gearbox and many other parts.

Johnnypopper I do not know how bad shipping is but I am parting it out anyway. My phone is 1- 608-341-6066.Leave a message and I will get back to you.Scott

What you need to think about is would it be cheaper or better to buy a replacement machine and not knowing if it is also going to have problems or better to fix what you now have and know even if it costs as much or even more than a replacement that you have something that works. I would sugjest you get not only the box but any of the other parts he has that you may need in the future.

I have located one. Thank you. I may have to get back to you if I need more parts when I start working on it. It has been setting for a while with the broken gearbox and has not been in service. I had to mow with my sickle bar mower last summer and I want to do better next year. I have some time to work on it this winter.
