3-Point Rake

Used a Ferguson 3-point rake for several years. Sold the fergy and bought a new New Holland 256, used it 1 time, did not like it at all. Sold the NH and bought a Massey 25, 3-point and been using it for 31 years. No trouble at all- best rake for a small farmer you will find. Have replaced a few teeth and replaced the belt once. The 3-point rake is good in small fields with corners and easy to transport. Wish you well.

Never ran a Ferguson rake but have a Ford and a John Deere 350 three points, the Deere is junk compared to the Ford.

I have a JD350 that works pretty good. What have you found that is better on the Ford? Interested to find out what I am missing.

Have a NI no 49. Really blew parts man's mind when I asked for parts for it. But a good rake, does a good job for my operation.

My MF25 that I bought at auction for $350.00 behind my 135.

The Ford does not have any stripper bars, instead it has a roller to that helps roll the hay into a nice windrow. Plus you can run it only 2 point and the wheels are made to pivot all the way around without hitting the frame like the Deere would, works good for swales in fields.

If you are raking irregular patches of hay, a 3pt side delivery rake is really well suited. You can lift it completely free on corners without making a "rope" on your turn, then you can drop the rake back in at any included angle without making a slug. I sold my 3pt JD350 after I got my Ford 503 with the roller. The roller seems to work better on brome on windy days that wants to follow the teeth on around. The frame on the Ford 503 seems more rigid than my JD350 did. The only disadvantage to the Ford 503 that I have found so far is two more bearings and a longer v belt, but neither have caused any problems.

What rrlund said.3 point Rotary rakes like a lely lotus 300 are perfect for small irregular fields.Makes a fluffy windrow and will also ted your hay.

The 503 doesn't handle large or double windrows very well. Not much clearance under the frame. Very hard to make a smooth turn. You have to make a large arc then it misses the outside of the corner. Have to go real slow into the wind because the hay will blow up and wrap around the stripper.

Why? You need airflow for it to dry. It's nice to be able to stop the baler without it pulling in 500 feet of roped hay too.

The rakes I have had are the ones you guys are always complaining about and if it was not fit we did not rake and never had the baler try to pull in any hay. I worked behind a New Holland roll-a-bar one time and hated the what I called a very poor job of raking. Too big of fluffy row would not go in pickup of baler.

Those rotarys pull the swath apart and put it in little "tent" shapes in the windrow so the air moves through it and it doesn't rope. Super nice machines for turning wet hay too. They tear the windrow apart and make a whole new one out of it instead of just rolling it over.
