Hay Rake - 9ft - 3 pt - Were They Ever Made????

Did any manufacturer ever make a 3 point mounted rollabar type hay rake in 9 ft, i.e. New
Holland, IH or JD?

If so - anyone know of the model numbers. Any models to stay away from, as well as good models
to be on the look-out for?

I'm assuming 9ft would be the max width in a 3pt rake?

Thanks!
Bill

MF made a 3 pt hitch rake that ran off the pto,

Some like them others not

One advantage they keep the bar rotation speed up, even if you have to slow down for corners, points in the field, etc,
Very maneuverable,

Just read about them

However, only rake I ever use was a new holland pull type rake, it did a good job

Dearborn had one, maybe it was a Ferguson. Deere had one too that you could put a tongue on and use it as a pull type. We had one of those, but I don't remember the model number.

The old MF 3 pt rakes run from the Ground Speed pto, not engine pto. They are good rakes, but designed for MF and Ferguson systems.

for sure on the older Ferguson hay rakes, they were designed for the pto ground speed
Ferguson sold a special adapter (only saw a picture of one) it attached to the bolts around the pto, this speed reducer lower the std pto speed to what was considered as ground speed,

however the later model MF 3pt rakes may have been built to work on std 540 rpm,
It would be something to be sure and check out before you purchase a pto driven rake.

The one I have is a Minneapolis Moline. Can't remember the model, but the parts store looked it up and said they quit making it in 62'.
Seems to have used pretty standard parts. Teeth for New Holland work, Bearings just go to the parts store and measure etc.

So I've got a 3pt PTO driven rake, a John Deere 350. It is a 7 ft rake. I'm looking for a 9ft in the same set-up.

BTW - the JD350 could be adapted to use a drawbar too. My 350 is a 4 bar, but is made to take a 5th bar. It is an outstanding rake.

Note: My #1 tractor driver is at the helm of the Massey Ferguson 50 diesel and JD350 rake....

I think they were all either 7 or 8 foot, that is all I ever heard of. And with all the gears avaible in any of the modern tractors that spped thing they are talking about on the Ferguson rake would not be needed, think Deere had a 3 point PTO driven rake and never had a speed conversion, just standard PTO. The ground drive feature just made the pto rake run at speeds like a ground drive did. And that speed converter was only needed on a TE or TO 20 or TO 30 or Ford 8N or NAA with the 4 speed tranney as the speed for running the rake at proper speed was lacking in those tractors, noe the Ford 9N-2N with the 3 speed tranney 3rd was ideal raking speed as it fit in between the 3rd and 4th in the four speed tractors.

New Holland builds the model 57. 8'6 5 bar.

The old 4 bar Ferguson I had roped so bad that Tarzan could have swung on it. Worked ok in grass, but was terrible in stem crops.

you are in luck
new Holland 3 pt hitch rake
here is a picture of a new Holland #57 3pt hitch rake
ad says its 9'6" wide

at least you know what to search for,

I have only seen 7', and 8' 3 point rakes, I know some of the big wheel 3 points are 9'. I have a 8' MF25 3 point pto drive hay rake. While my rake is setup for 540 rpm the pulley's can be changed to make it run on ground pto. If you have a ground pto rake it can be changed to run off 540 pto by just changing pulley's.

We use a JD 650 PTO - 3pt. // Also use a JD 652 3PT. Hyd. motor drive... The both seem to handle a 9ft. mower swath / 9ft. # 50 mower with working swath board.. The 650 is the replacement for the 350 rake... pic's of lit.

I bought a New Holland 57 3 point rake to use on some property with triangular fields. It is a very well built rake and works well on those three cornered fields. Almost always rake two windrows together, sometimes more in the fall.

Bill you can buy a brand new New Holland 57 rake. They will rake 8'6". I have a Neighbor that has two of them. They work great for waterways and such. Very maneuverable. John Deere quit making bar rakes 5-10 years ago. So you would have to find a JD 350 rake used. There were some of them that would rake 9 foot IRC.

Bill in 40 plus years of doing hay, never ran across a 9 ft 3 pt rake. Biggest was a NH 57 3 pt. I have a NH 269 ground drive that we use and a 256 ground drive. Love both of them but son does not. He likes our rotary rake, but that is just him not wanting to learn to rake with a side delivery rake. By the way, tell your daughter that she does an excellent job of raking. Is she for rent?
