John deere 2700 plow? and other plows?

Hi, I own a white 508 three furrow 16 inch. Bought a allis chalmers 7040 this spring so looking for a 5-18 inch plow. I came across a john deere 2700. Are they any good? I hear john deeres pull harder is this true? I am looking for a plow that will do a good job covering trash.

I saw a white 549 and also a Massey 880. The Massey was hydraulic auto reset, How does hydraulic compare with the auto spring reset?

Should I run from the john deere? The deere and white are the same price... the Massey is a bit more. Which plow covers trash the best in your opinion?

The JD 2700 is one heck of a good plow. They will cover trash well. They are high clearance too. JD came out with these plows about 15-20 years late. They could have had the market if they had them in the 1970s when we still plowed a lot. I will not knock the White plow either. The MF is one that I would pass on. They are a good plow but parts are not going to be as easy to find as for the JD or White/Oliver plow. So I would be looking at the White or JD. The JD has some more hydraulics but the hydraulic steering on the tail wheel is a plus to me it works well.

okay.. I was also thinking of passing on the Massey plow. now its the white and john deere, They are both priced the same. I really like my white 508 but it isnt a high clearance plow.

Would the 549 white have as much clearance as the white?
And how many horsepower would you need for the john deere? Is it a harder pulling plow?
My soil isn't heavy but not sand either... Its in the middle.

Your AC 7040 should handle either plow without much trouble. The JD is a little heavier so it might pull a little harder. The harder pulling JD plows where older ones.

Now I have owned both JD and White plows. I liked how the White plow turned over sod better than the JD plow, just smoother. The JD plows handled trash better in crop ground. I did not own the newer high clearance plow form White and I have not plowed with the new JD 2000 series plows either. I have seen the JDs work and they will really handle high amounts of trash.

I have a JD-2800 which is the same as 2700 only it is variable width. Yes it pulls very hard and yes it does a great job of covering trash. When I got mine it had some covering boards on it and it covered to good so I took off the covers and it still gets it blacker then I would like. The JD will not plug up in trash, period.

White 549 should have the same clearance as an IH 720...36 inches. I"ve had both, and much prefer the White for its uniform furrows- way better than the 720. 509 is either 3 or 6 inches less, similar to IH 700 and 710. I"ve never been much impressed with JD tillage machines. Most JD tractors here are pulling other colors, whether plows, disc chisels, field cultivators, or other.

how would a ih 710 plow compare to them? There is one close to me with new shares for $1000 autoreset. maybe it would be a good plow? or not enough clearance.

John deere 2700 plow? and other plows?
