IH 47 baler - fly wheel question

I just bought a IH 47 twine baler that had been retro fitted with "all twine" knotters. We were going around it identifying all the things that need work before we could use it and I noticed one thing - there is no grease zerk in the flywheel. Every other baler I have had has one to grease the bushing the flywheel free spins on. Is this common or do I need to look for a broken zerk? I checked the manual and it doesn't show one either - but my wire tie 47 has one and so does my "parts" 47 unit.

The owners manual that shows greasing intervals doesn't show one - which kind of surprised me considering I grease the one on my wire tie 47 every time I use it.

Our Massey #12 didn't have a grease zerk in the flywheel. If you think about it, the only time it'll spin is when the shear bolt breaks, which shouldn't be too often.

As far as grading the rest of it, you didn't want to over grease the knotters as then grease could get where it's nit supposed to and affect the performance. I greased it at the beginning ofif the season, and about every 1500/2000 bales after.

The manual even stated as such.

I'm sure the flywheel "squirms" on the crank at every plunger stroke as it gains, then loses inertia. I would think having some grease in there would NOT be a bad idea. Further, it will help it from rusting/sticking when the machine sits unused, which could render the shearbolt ineffective.

It also spins on the shaft when ever your shut the PTO off and the flywheel free wheels as the baler slowly winds down.

Trying to think how it would spin on the shaft when winding down. Maybe the ih is different, but as long add the shear bolt is still there, it's still attached to the drive hub. The orc is what spins. That doesn't have a zerk either on the #12, but back then lots of manufacturers were trying to go with as few grease zerks as possible.

(quoted from post at 23:03:56 11/19/16) It also spins on the shaft when ever your shut the PTO off and the flywheel free wheels as the baler slowly winds down.

Ditto what Don stated about ORC. Only time flywheel is free to spin on hub is after shear bolt has sheared.
