What'd you use for the hydraulic motor?
I built one from an 5' bush hog, and used an old Char Lynn wheel motor I had hanging around. LX565 14gpm @3000 skidsteer. Not getting the tip speed I wanted. Calculations said I should be getting 540 rpm into the gearbox, but I'm not.

Plenty of power though. Thing'll go through a 2" sapling like it's not there. More like whirling axes than mower blades.

Well I have 9.5 gpm so found a motor on surplus center.com
to give me about 500 rpm.

Unless you have a hi flow machine, you'll never get the performance
like on the back of a tractor.

So with the very low flow of 9.5 gpm, I decided to only use blades for a 4'
diameter cut width. Unlike a tractor, it's easy to swing side-to-side
to clear a path wide enough for the machine (If the sides are open like my design)

Also, a closed deck that re-cuts the material (shreds) takes more h.p. (that I don't have)
So mine is more of a slash cut. I have cut in high grass, but that is what takes the
h.p. so progress is slow.

In operation along a tree line (trimming the underbrush) it generally goes like this:
You spin it up to speed, and then go in, as you drop speed, (or outright stall) you lift it up and back up a bit to get it spun back up.

ow about a suit of armor !!!

Oh come on now....bunch-O weenies....

Here is the more streamlined version 2.0
and it greatly cuts down the stuff "coming back"

Plus I think I'll just ad a cab door to the skid loader.
