Oliver 546 plow

Friend has a 546 4-16 plow I would like to have a 3-
16 for a U-302. Would it be possible to convert a 4
to a 3 by cutting beam and welding end back on. It
is a semi mount it looks like it could be done any
comment appreciated.
 
I don't know if they did it to the 546, but we have a 565 plow that's a 4 boron back bone, that's 3 bottoms. You pull the front bottom off and shift the whole thing over. I'd have to look at the manual for my 546 if I think of it.

The 546 was convertible, three or four and 14 or 16 inch. This is one I found near me, sitting for a long time.

When you start cutting up a plow like that I'm sure your line of draft will change and it will pull off-kilter. I'd save that plow for a larger tractor and pick up a nice 3 furrow 4340 Oliver plow.
Just my 2 cents.
 
I looked at the book, but it doesn't say anything about being adjusted down to a 3 bottom plow. They can however be turned to a 14" bottom, which would help some. It'd take 8"of width off the plow.
