Grader Blade Find

I've been looking for a grader blade for some time to push some snow around this coming winter. Happened to stumble upon this blade at a scrap yard of all places... They were asking scrap price for it (50 cents a pound).

I ran out of rattle can spray paint... so it won't be finished painting until this weekend... Also, I don't think I've ever seen one with an arm like that which "locks" the blade in position. Not sure I like it or not. Can't imagine I'll be change the position all that much with it.

Has anyone else found a great place for used implements?

Looks pretty good after getting some paint on it. The only source for picking up items like that around here is craig's list.
I have an extra on myself that I was thinking of doing something with.

Yeah, our craigslist is pretty lousy here. Not much and the price people want is horrific. I've been looking on ebay from time to time, but unless I want to spend > $500 and then ship something heavy like this across country it's just not worth it....

Most of those small blades came with the arm on the back to release the blade to rotate, but most of those arms were broken or removed so they are seldom seen on old blades. Ours was a 1939 model that came with the 9N when it was new. The arm didn't last more than a year or two and we used a prybar to release the locking mechanism.

You did well. You paid a fair honest price and you got a suitable blade, but It is not scrap and was not at any kind of a scrap price. Probably about a third to half of new price.

If you do much snow plowing you WILL be changing the angle-position several times during the job. Mine I have to take out a bolt to move.

Looks like a decent blade for the price. If you hit a ledge with that hoss of a tractor you will probably bend that thing like a pretzel. Man, I wish scrap was 50cents/lb here, that's $1000 a ton, last week short steel was $100/ton :-(

Probably right. I was really looking for a 7ft blade instead of a 6 foot. Ideally I would like it to be wider than the wheel width of the tractor. It's a decently powered piece of machinery. a 1976 MF 265. But for the price of the blade (came out to about $150) Not much I can complain about.

I don't *plan* on hitting anything like ledges, but there is the possibility of a few rocks/boulders in the few hundred yards of dirt road to maintain.

Around here it would have brought $200-$250 or better at auction, so you came out okay.
Take care of that MF and it will probably last a long time, they are a tough tractor.
I wish you luck with it!

Thanks. I'm trying to take care of her. Just got her from my uncle who used it occasionally yearly for the past several years. Next step is to get all the gauges working (tach first). Wife wants me to do a full restore... I told her I need another tractor before I can do that. So we always have one that can work :)

Looks good, I brought a 6ft blade locally for pretty cheap also couple yrs ago. Same as you, wish it was wider. Found a metal fab shop, got 18" wings added to each end to make it 9ft now. Tractor its being used on it 7ft wide, so doing any angle blading didn't work out so well. I can post pictures if you like.

Would love to see pics...

The blade is 1/4", the square tubing is 3/16". Pretty much all that blade is going to do is grade the driveway which is 900ft long couple time during the year. Otherwise it will be just sitting.

Believe me, you WILL need to strengthen the center of the blade and may even want Side Chains up to the lower 3-point arms...BTDT...

Looks very good as far as craftsmanship tho...

Mine made like that is a 6' and with that weight frame would not want a 7' blade on it. That is a 35 horse blade, I do have a second blade rated as a 50 horse blade that is a 7' and have bent it with a 52 horse tractor.
