Ford 101 moldboard

I've found a Ford 101 moldboard. I it has good bottoms, but is missing coulters. Needs the whole assembly. It has land side but no tail wheel. I've only seen pictures. Do 101 come with only 14 inch bottom, I would like a 2x12. Think my to30 Ferguson could handle the 2x12 or one 16 ok. Don't know how well it could with two 14's. The sells man says I could remove one.
I'm seeing some Dearborn online with two bottom and a tail wheel. Can someone point me to things I need to check before buying. I've seen coulters priced at about 150.00 so two would be about 300.00 for two. Haven't looked for a tail wheel or parts for bottoms.
I also found a single 16 listed as a white. No coulter or tail in the picture.

My TO30 Ferguson has managed 3-14's at times so yours should be able to handle 2-14's unless you have gumbo clay. If you have gumbo clay, sell your place and buy something decent.

I have used coulters on my plow but with straw it plugs the plow so badly I have trouble clearing it. Now my coulters sit in the shed. They might be nice for breaking sod but using glyphosphate and waiting a month or more will soften the sod so you don't really need coulters.

A tailwheel will take some wear off the landsides but unless you expect to plow 40 acres or more each year you can probably get by without it.

I plowed for 50 years and would NEVER try it without coulters, anybody that thinks they can do better without coulters does not know how to adjust them or what they were trying to use were wore out. And the plows made without a tail wheel had an extra long rear land side to compensate and that long land side was cheaper to make. And there were people like my uncle that claimed he could pull 3-14" without any problems but when he sold out his plow was bought by a neighbor and his 860 Ford he said would barely pull it in same ground. Then a distant cousin several mile away pulled 3-12" with theirs. Local neighbors (4)several had that model tractor and 2-14" all they had or wanted. Anouther neighbor had 3-12" but later he was pulling a 3 bottom with a 450 Farmall. Me I had 2-14" for mine and ended up using a John Deere pull type NO. 52 2-12" behind and it was better that the Ferguson mounted 2-14".

I borrowed a Ford 101 plow from my neighbor last year to break my truck patch,
The plow was a 3x14" plow with the rear plow just torched off ( not the proper way to remove an extra plow)

The plow had no coulters and the truck patch had a lot of trash/debris as I bush hogged the corn stalks down then disk over them,

The Ford plow did a good job of turning over the dirt, plugged up only one time,

My 3x12" Ferguson plows with coulters could not go one round with out clogging up, very frustrating,

I would buy a Ford 101 14" plow in a minute if I could find one,

This fall I broke my truck patches with my Ferguson double disc plow MF 64, it did a good job, maybe clogging up twice, but a disc plow leaves the ground a little rougher,

Buy a Ford 101 plow if you can find one, I would buy the 14" as it will have more throat area to allow trash/ debris to past through and not clog up.

You put a set of Yetter coulters on that Ferguson and it will be like night and day different. The bigger plows with more trash clearance will not notice the difference as much as the smaller ones. We ran Yetter coulters from when they were first avaible.

Leroy,
picture shows the coulters I have on my 3x12" MF plows
they are new and slotted type which I was told would cut better.

still I think the lack of throat space for the trash debris to travel through is the primary reason the plow choke up so bad.

the 14" ford 101 plows with much more throat area and no coulters did not hardly choke up at all in the same truck patch area.

Put a set of Yetter coulters on it and it will be like day and night difference. That is just basicly a 3 bottom version of my 2 bottom.

Get the largest diameter you can fit also...a 12" plow cannot go in more than 6", so the Coulters should cut nearly down to the Share Point.

Properly set, the Axle of the Coulter should be 2" ahead of the Share Point..

In-effective Coulter adjustment will cause bad plugging problems..
