king cutter finish mower

I am trying to install a new belt on my neighbors king kutter finish mower 5 ft.
so far no luck,
I do not understand why the engineers would have made changing a belt on this little cutter so hard, difficult, etc.

so far I have taken the gearbox loose, raising it up will not give you enough room to slip the new belt under the drive pulley and attachment bolts.

so I guess I must take off the frame member the gearbox is attached too that is attached to the deck, so far I have not been able to loosen the bolts.

I guess I can take it out to a tree and stand it up on its side and use the torch to heat up the nuts, what a pain in the bottom,

""""they should have fired, on the spot, the engineer who designed this system""""

the old belt has not broken as yet, I was doing my neighbor a favor by changing the belt before it broke, little did I know what I was getting into.
o-well time goes on, I will give it the old collage try.

maybe I can get a helper to hold while I get a 5 ft cheater bar, maybe we can get the nuts loose.

hopefully, if they still make this brand cutter, they have changed the belt changing system.
otherwise, no one should buy one of these units.
Just my two cent!!!!!!

The belt will slide under pulley. You need to try harder! Great mower! My sil has trie d for over 10 years to tear one up. Be sure your idler pulley will move. It is spring loaded. his belt lasted almost 5 years.

VicS,
Respectfully, I took the four gearbox bolts out, raised the gearbox up and placed wood spacers between the gearbox base and the frame,

As I could tell the nut that holds the large drive pulley to the output shaft of the gearbox sticks down into the hole of the cutter deck,

Just not enough clearance to push the new belt around the shaft, nut,

I have a friend coming over tomorrow (Farmer Don) he is a certified redneck like me, we will fix it or tear it up trying,
Also he has a boxed end 15/16 wrench, so hopefully with a helper, his wrench, my long breaker bar and my torch, if necessary, we can get the new belt on.

VicS,
You were right, thanks for you guidance, with the help of my fellow redneck buddy we got the new belt on in short order,

Old cutter runs like a champ with new belt and sharp blades,

Thanks for your help,
