Pull Type Combine Canvas Sources

Seems I read that there is an Amish company in the midwest somewhere that made replacement canvases for antique combines. I have an old pull-type IH combine that I am thinking about restoring, but don't want to start the process unless I know that I can find canvas for it and know the price.

I needed a canvas top for my rock bucket and went to a canvas shop in Dallas with the dimensions, picked out the weight and had it built. Very reasonable.

Here's a list of weights that might help:

Some typical uses of various grades (with weights in ounces) are:
No. 1 (18 oz): hammocks, cots, sandbags.
No. 2 (17 oz): hatch paulins.
No. 3 (16 oz): heavy-duty bags.
No. 4 (15 oz): sea bags.
No. 5 (14 oz): heavy work clothes.
No. 6 (13 oz): large boat covers, heavy work clothes.
No. 8 (11 oz): work clothes, clothes bags.

Any place that makes boat or RV covers, does repair on those big rental tents or anything along those lines can sew up the canvasses for you. That is assuming you have the old canvass to use as a pattern. Yes, there are Amish places that specialize in that sort of thing, but finding an address can be hard. There are modern materials that the Amish use now that hold up way better than the old cotton canvasses, but I can't recall what it's called. The slats are just a decent grade, clear (knot free) hardwood. You'll spend more time riveting in the slats than anything else.

Colby canvas co in colby kansas makes canvas for the older new holland balers and they probably have that one also might check with them

This material was given to me. I made the curtains myself. Old upholstery man sewed the hems for me with a thread that is almost unbreakable. I riveted the slats on myself.
This is a very heavy cotton duck material.
Needed a curtain at Clemson on a plot combine years ago. Found some old army tank cover material at the farm and made curtain. When the one we ordered arrived, we just kept using the one I made.
Check with some old upholstery shops.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm sure there must be a more rot resistant and mouse resistant material out there now than cotton canvas.

It can be water proofed. I don't have the specs on the process but the natural water resistance, unless you touch it, is inherent in the material to some extent. I like canvas because it breathes and seldom mildews whereas plastic retains the moisture and has to be vented. Plus it's tough and takes a lot of wear.
