Question about PTO New Idea Spreader

Kirkums

New User
We have a PTO Driven New Idea Spreader that has been mostly restored, I just need to get a few more parts for it. We are unsure of the exact year or model as that information was missing when it was purchased.

We have contacted Norm McNair, but he has been unable to help. Does anyone have any idea where we can purchase or have made a sprocket for the part shown below? We also are unsure what size/type of spring should be below the sprocket. Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried Agco. They do still have some stuff for the old NI spreaders or did a couple of years ago when I needed some things.

Kirkums, that looks to be just an idler to keep the chain tight. I may have some parts off of one that I parted out. I will look in the next couple of days for you.

That is an idler to put tension on your chain. I also have a new idea spreader and that part will look like yours does after a lot of use but will last a long time as it is. Just my thoughts, Keith

yes, that is only an Idler..NOT a Tensioner...

You don't want that type of chain to run "Tight".. maybe some Graphite will help it last longer..they need adjustments often, as they wear..

Our old JD #226 Corn Picker had those chains on it and constantly needed attention...

Like some one said, that sprocket is not for tension---It's to take up the slack in
the chain and to keep the chain in proper alignment.

There is an idler wheel that would accomplish the same purpose---It's a smooth wheel
that has "rails" on the outer edge of the wheel. And an idler wheel of this sort
might be a lot easier to find.

Thanks to everyone for all your comments.

ArleninOr - We would love to know if you have one.

The part that's currently on the spreader is one that I took off another piece of equipment. I would like to have the correct sprocket, since the one that's on it doesn't have any teeth and can't keep the chain from sliding from side to side and rubbing.
