Sidewinder mowers?...

...FMC made I think...the old tire-drive no gear box rotary cutter.

Are these worth owning?

I looked at a six-footer today..had a new drive tire and fair good tire-tires..seemed to roll smooth enough...a drawbar mower like I need(which are fairly rare around here)...no hydraulic cylinder version with leveling cranks for the wheels(I'm ok with that).

Not looking to brush-hog hundreds of acres but more like six acres with a JD 4010 standard.

I would think it'd make you a good mower. We
had one some time ago and I liked it a lot.
Easy to keep and will cut anything you can
run over, almost anyway. Only reason I
junked ours is parts seem to be hard to get.
Bearings and blades not so much, but the
other parts can be difficult to find. Good
thing is, if you're gentle with it, it won't
need any work other than greasing. Good
luck.

I have had several, have a 7 footer now, 3 point hitch. The are pretty much trouble free. No gearbox and no slip clutch. Make sure you have the correct tire. A car tire won't work. keep the tire pressure up, or it will slip.

I will probably buy the 'Sidewinder' and see how it works. It does have the wrong type drive-tire on it...but we'll see how it works
