Need help with Bush Hog 306 gearbox

After about 3 days of soaking with solvent, beating and using pressure from a 12 ton jack, we got the stump jumper off. Then removed the gearbox.
I've opened up the gearbox, but need help for how I get the nuts off the gears to be able to pull shafts and get to bearings and seals.[/img]

Maybe I'll get this now since I reduced size of pics. Sorry for the extra post, it won't let me edit.

I've been trying to find the answer in the meantime on the web. I found that there is an indentation on the nut that you can drive the nut in the off direction with a drift punch. So I've got the gears off and the outer bearings. The inner and races I'll have pressed off...it's getting exciting, I'm part way there. If anyone has any tips, please shout them out.

I really can't help with the disassembly, but do the math. On a disc mower gear box I found that after figuring the cost of parts and labor, it was cheaper to
just buy a new gearbox. Of course, you have already done the expensive labor, but do check the cost of those gears.

From what I can tell, the gears will clean up. Cogs are good. I'll just be replacing seals and bearings, and going that route I don't think will break the bank.

I can't tell very well from your pics, but the gears look rusty and pitted to me.I don't think they would last very long;I think they will erode quickly,if used heavily.Mark

Yeah, you can't really tell from the pics and they do look pittetd/rusty but they're not. Just surface rust, I cleaned them up yesterday with a wire wheel.
