Baler Knotter Repair

New Holland 276, have broken woodruff key on the Twine Finger Cam, the book says the cam is to have locktite used to secure it. Has anyone done this? where is the locktite to be applied? I do not want to screw this up and the instruction is less than clear.

Thanks in advance.

I'm curious as why they want loctite inside the twine finger cam?? because the shaft has to be able the slide thru all the parts mounted on it to adjust the clearance on the parts by adding or removing shims on the needle fork brake end of the main shaft, the shaft slides thru all the parts to the clutch end which has a cotter pin in it which is what the slight preload is pulling against, don't see how a small amount of movement would affect the twine fingers other than causing a little wear from being able to move slightly on the shaft as their movement isn't that precise

This is on the Knotter Shaft, the "Cam" is just outside the knotter frames between them and the Knotter Clutch, still not sure if the locktite is supposed to be on the shaft or exactly where, again, the instructions are vague at best, I think it is on the shaft to "help" keep the cam in place and take stress off of the woodruff key? I hope to take it all apart tomorrow, maybe I will see residue of where the previous locktite was???

I think the loctite is applied between the woodruff key and shaft only, none between woodruff key and the part that engages the woodruff key so it can still slide on the shaft. This helps to prevent the woodruff key from shifting and wearing the woodruff key and shaft causing a loose fit. Loctite makes special versions just for key applications.

Thanks, that would make much more sense. Now I wonder where i can find the specified locktite... I have tried a google search and it does not seem to bring up the type specified on the new holland parts
site, and they say procure it locally.... Hmmm... I guess I will have to try Applied Technology (formerly Detroit ball bearing), they carry all kinds of gears and sprockets they should have hopefully the
key and the locktite. I will follow using only on the woodruff key unless someone else knows different.
