Altas 300 Disc

a few years ago I bought a 6ft Altas 300 disc,
was a mistake, as I believe this disc is really a small round bailer built to look like a disk.

seems like every time I try to disc my garden, all this disc does is wrap the garden material up in the axles.

I ran my rotary cutter over the garden first to cut up the weeds, cornstalks, etc:

I see others disking out in the fields, just running right along and never having the problems I have with this disc
it is a cheap made disc and did not come with blade scrapers, but I attached a chain from the frame to the axle to keep the dirt from building up, but does not work on this disc.

should I look for another disc, if so, what do I look for so the dirt does not build up????//

I will let the grass dry for a few days then jack up the disc in my shop and try cutting out the grass with a box cutter, a real pain in the bottom,
there has to be a better way,

also the builder installed slotted blades on the rear gangs to further irritate the owner user, the sloted blades on the rear catch on your drag and lock up the rear gangs, so you drag up piles of dirt before you realize it not turning,
how could a company stay in business build such a tool and why did I buy it????
may paint it up nice this winter and send it down the road next spring. I have had enough

Do you moldboard plow your ground before you disc it? That might help with your plant matter.

I did not plow the ground first,
All I have is a set of MF 62 3x12" plows, they do very poorly in a field with a lot of debris, choke up about as much as they plow,
That is the reason I was trying to disc it down, so some dirt would be showing when I did try to break the gardens,
Hope someday to find a set of 2x16 ford or Ferguson plows, I understand they have a much larger throat area any will let the debris flow on through,

Maybe next year will be better if I can find those 16" plows, I see a set on Craigslist from time to time,

I did buy a set of MF disc plows and they do better than my flat bottoms, but still choke in that heavy debris,

I would say make sure the field has been mowed prior to plowing and if it still plugs the plow (I dont know if you use jointers with your coulters) I would remove the coulters altogether. Fluted coulters will help cut the trash better however if there is still too much and the coulters keep getting plugged you might have to take them off. Regardless I would say plow the ground first then disc it.
