Rear mount Dearborn sickle bar mower

OLD FORDS

New User
Hello all, just bought a 47 8N and a rear mount 6 foot sickle bar mower came along with it but its missing a few parts. Are the lift arm extensions manditory to use the mower ? Also missing the drive shaft that attaches from the mower to the tractor, is this specific for the mower or can I use the drive shaft from one of my other implements ? One other thing I know this is NOT a 501 mower, but what Model might this be ?

Thanks.

It could be the 515. I have the manual for the 515 and if you send me an e-mail I can scan some of the pages if that would help you. As for the PTO shaft if I remember right it is just one of the common size square shafts which many machines used

Old Ford,
I am also currently restoring a 6 foot, 14-15 Dearborn Motors sickle mower. Found owners manual on Ebay. Just got most of bolts freed.
What parts to you need? Found quite a few on Ebay. Went to Ford/New Holland dealer; most of the parts were DC'd after later 1960, he claimed.
There are a no. of these around the USA apparently.

Look on the "Ford 8N - 9N - 2N Tractors" site page, related to YTMAG, i.e. this site, and someone posted a manual and diagrams there on the site, under the "manuals" tabs.
Am looking for the right axle , anchor plate, from BIL's, father's estate, and am close. The PTO shaft does need an adapter, as it was different size relative to other models. Mine appears, 1", and mounting on a Farmall M, so bought a 1 1/8" adapter from my local AGCO dealer, who I deal with, also.

Let me know how things work out for you?

Good Luck,
Matt

The lift link extensions keep you from raising the mower too high and busting the universal joints in the pto shaft.

Thanks, but if I was real careful could I use the mower without the extensions until I either find them or make them ?

Thanks, I've printed everything I could find so far. I'm looking for the lift arm extensions (look like dog bones). Another poster answered that these are needed as not to lift the mower to high and damage the universal joints

Good question. Honestly haven't used one personally . As Old said , would be glad to copy as much of manual , as I have . Mine has a plate on rear with model #, and serial #.
