Deere - Van Brundt Model B Seed Drill

I just bought a John Deere Van Brundt Model B 16x10 seed drill (no actual markings, I deduced the model info from photos on the web). I don't know the year, but there is a note written in 1962 so it's older than that.

I'm looking for a parts and operating manual, as well as any operating tips you might have.

Specifically, there is no flow setting info for the large or small seed tubes, and the adjustment levers are quite tight. How best to loosen them?

16 X 10 would mean 16 openers on 10" centers, I don't see where they made a model "B" drill in that configuration. Is that the opener count and spacing you have?

Look closely, there should be an ID plate on the main frame somewhere in front of the hopper.

Once you figure out for sure what it is, you can look on ebay for an operator's manual. You can buy a new one by calling DEERE Techpubs @ 1-800-522-7448. Once you get the manual, typically there's a "seed chart" in to establish baseline feed setting, then you calibrate it from there. Originally, there should have been a decal under the seedbox lid with that info, some have been available from DEERE, I think most now come up as "discontinued.

To loosen the adjustments, ALL the fluted feeds and associated mechanism needs to be lubed and loosened up, IIRC, DEERE originally recommended kerosene, I always used diesel fuel.
With drill raised/out of gear, then rotate the square feedshafts with a "Crescent wrench" and lube again 'til everything fress up.

I've linked the parts manual for the "B", from the DEERE website below. You can download that and see if it corresponds to your machine.

Ditto what Bob stated no 16X10 model "B" drills were produced.

Maybe it's a model DR1610A

Definitely a 16x10, but doesn't look like the few DR1610A photos I could find. Any advice on additional 16x10 photos?

Here are some photos...

Definitely a 1610 and has double run (large and small seed throats - one side covered in the seed hopper)

Seems like a DR1610 - what is the difference between the DR1610A and DR1610B? The B photos I've seen are not quite the same...can't find an A photo.

JD has a operators and parts manual for the DR1610B, but I don't see one for a DR1610A.

As I previously stated I think you drill is a model RB that came only with double-run feed cups. Model DR-A & DR-B drills came from factory with green seed boxes with yellow lids not galvanized similar to your drill.

Jim -

Thanks for the image - it definitely looks like an RB with single disk, power lift and cover chains (no grass box).

I'd looked at the JD tech pubs site previously and couldn't find the RB, but I just did (searching RB only instead of RB1610) and found and ordered both the operators and parts manuals.

Yesterday I pressure washed the caked-on and dried grease off, greased it all up and ran it around the pasture. Works great!

Thanks everybody!!
