Hayliner 276

I'm hoping someone out there can help.

I have a Hayliner 276 that likes to snap the main drive chain and the knotter chain, and every time that happens the plunger bends the tine fingers. Now I do know its not a timing issue, so any other ideas? Could it be a bale tension being too tight? Is there an slip clutch for the main drive chain?

Thanks

Your first problem is that the plunger safety stop is not working because it is was the twine needles would not be getting harmed. As for the chain breaking that could be as simpe as worn sprockets and the chain riding up on the teeth and that will cause the chain to break. The teeth on a sprocket should be flat on the tops of the teeth and if they are sharp they sprocket is likely to be worn out

276 is a mighty fine baler.

Can't say I've read much in the way of drive and knotter chains breaking on any New Holland baler - sounds severe.

I agree you need to check your plunger stop and make sure it's working and timed/adjusted to come in the bale chamber. Once you've got that
you might be in the clear.

I had a similar problem, found that the bolts that hold the shield onto the drive box behind the sprocket that runs the main drive chain had backed out and were catching the chain, causing it to break. The
bolds are behind the sprocket which makes it very hard to see, broke it twice before I found the problem. I have 3 276 balers, check those bolts, may or may not be your problem, but something to check.
