Boy bought a OLD Ferguson 3pt side rake today for $30/40 bucks. one of the bars was bent, and one of the points on one of the star wheels was broke and gone. ANYBODY know where to look for another star wheel, and tooth bar? I didn't see a place to grease the star wheels in the center, or to grease the ends of the 4 bars. Was there a reason for that?

does your son have a Ferguson tractor with ground speed pto option,

must have ground speed pto or a very rare pto speed reducer attachment to operate the rake.

just my understanding.

Where are you located? The bearings in the ends of the bar are sealed bearings. The bearings that the stars ride on was supposed to be removed and repacked every so often.

Pt, what is ground speed pto on a Ferguson for, if not for use on the Ferguson hay rake,

I thought that is why the Ferguson tractors had that extra ground speed pto, however I have never use my ground speed pto raking hay,

I do know you can jack up one rear wheel, place the pto in ground speed, transmission in reverse, let out on the clutch and the pto shaft will
turn in reverse, so you can back a stuck post hole digger out of the ground,

However, I would not think Ferguson engineers designed it for that purpose only,

If you have light grass to rake or something like that the ground pto probably works ok. When you have to rake something that's heavy like cattle grazer, ground pto isn't fast enough. On things like fertilizer spreaders some used ground pto. Since most new tractors don't have ground pto the buggy type fertilizer spreader we use from our local feed, and seed store has a metal wheel that you engage to one of tires on the spreader. I'm sure there are some planters, and other equipment that used to use ground pto.

Ground speed was only on the 35, the 20 & 30 were supposed to use that adapter. On the 30 3rd was too fast real speed and 4th not fast enough. On the 3 speed Ford 9N-2N 3rd was just corect acording to older neighbor that had both a 2N and TO30, Never heard if he tried it on the F40 or not but I think they also had ground speed.

Well they made several variations of those rakes. The original line up had an 18" sheave for use behind the Ferguson TO-20,TO-30 in 4th gear. If your land didn't permit you to run in 4th gear and you had to use 3rd that's when you had to use the pto speed reducer although most of them were ran in 3rd without the reducer. That's why you see the reels and bearings all messed up. By the time Massey came into the picture they offered the rakes in 4 bar, 5 bar, and 6 bar with several sheave and pulley combinations to fit not only several makes of Masseys but also to fit other brands of tractors that did not have ground pto speed. So it is possible to buy a used one today that would not work properly with ground pto speed because it wasn't built to be used with ground pto speed.

I forgot to add that in the original line up a 22" sheave was offered so that the rake could be used behind a 9N which was a 3 speed but the 22" sheave corrected the reel speed so the rake could be used behind a 9N in 3rd gear.

I had no idea how long they kept it in production. Got my information on TO 35 from sales lit. I had a TO30. Think I have a parts book on that speed changer around.

(quoted from post at 01:43:16 09/06/16) Its a D-EO-20 #8145

I have a parts D-EO-20 I could take that spider off of. One of the spokes has been welded on it. It was that way when I bought it and I used it for several years before I got another one that was in better shape.
