Help identify a rotary spreader

Spotted this spreader on the way home tonight. The owner has it for sale with the PTO shaft and said make an offer. Does anyone have any experience with them or a thought about value?

A new one will range in cost from $500 up. I'd offer him a $100 , and see if he'll take it. I've always said the value of anything is what someone is willing to pay, and how bad they want it. If you think $100 is too high start out lower.

LELY is still in business , and manufacture a top quality product used by golf courses, and schools. If you need a good spreader don't pass this one bye. This is a lot better spreader tha you'll find at the local farm stores.

I looks identical to my Lely spreader. Check to see the extent of the rust at the base under the hopper and that the open/close mechanism isn't
rusted tight. If it isn't, great. If it is, it can be wire rushed, but loss of metal from flaking rust can be thin out its structure. The hopper comes off
with a flip of a spring loaded lever at the base. GREAT spreader, manual is online for free. Mine is a H or HL.

IMHO these are heavy duty, well made spreaders. Very expensive new.

However the spreader I have must be at least 45 years old. That one might be too. Start at $100 and go from there.

Good luck,
Bill

Lely spreader at work

Used a ground driven model like that for years. Kinda small, but they work well. Can
also be used to spread grass seed if properly calibrated. Ben

My first thought was to use the unit to replant grass seed in a large area of the yard we will disc and drag this fall. When the barn was built the contractor buryed his truck and a 48' flat bed in there on two occasions. I think it should work for pelletized lime or iron also. I've been in the hospital the last two days with my wife, I'll see what I can do to make an offer after I get her home.
