Picked up a john deere 127 gyromower series 4 a coupla weeks ago, just got to it this week.It was said to not have been used for the last twenty years. The pto clutch was tight looked like it had never spun, still had machining marks on the steels. Pulled it all a part and cleaned and lubed. the back plate had been off and some one had put silicone seal on it in gobs. Had no oil in gear box, but filled it and hasn't leaked. Used it on about an acre today and worked great, except hit a rock and broke a blade.
The question is Deere no longer makes 3/8 thick blades and wants $180 for 1/2 blades and bolts. could you take stock steel and just make your own 3/8 blades? If so what type steel would you use?
