Adjustable Hold Down Clips

Planning a refurb on the Hesston 1110 mower conditioner cutter bar and have settled, for now, on standard
guards - vs stub guards. Just to many rocks and obstacles in our newer fields that would probably wreck stub
guards. Maybe in a few years stub guards or perhaps a discbine.... ;-)

With that.....

Standard guards - anyone using adjustable hold down clips? I notice they are standard equipment on New - New
Holland 488 haybines. I can't find where Hesston ever offered adjustable hold down clips for standard guards
- only stub guards.

Do they work, are they a pain in the buttox - what's the good, bad, ugly on adjustable hold down clips for
standard mower conditioner double guards?

Also - Hesston use to offer a bar with an end on it such you could fit it over the end of a standard guard
and bend it back into shape. Anyone used such a bar (or similar) with success vs adjustable guards and/or a
BFH to get the sickle sections and ledger surface to come together again.

Thanks - and glad to see my friend SJ didn't somehow wreck the YT site earlier and it's back online... :)

Bill the only issue with the adjustable hold downs it that they stick up further than the regular hold downs. I have noticed in fine grass that it can catch on the taller hold down. If your mowing mostly alfalfa you will like the adjustable hold downs.

I have a 1209 JD swather that had standard guards with adjustable hold downs on them. They worked for the guy who had the swather before but I went to stub(non clog) guards with JD adjustable tops and they work better in my conditions. It looks like adjustable hold downs should work better than the ones you have to rap on with a hammer, and sometimes bend too much. You might try some and see how they work. I think there are some made by sup0p0liers other than Deere also.

rocks and obstacles will wreck standard guard too if you hit something,,,when I had my 1071 put stub guards on it never had a prob ,,,,on more thing to check on yours is the apron the guards mount to for straightness they will get bent over time good luck with your machine they are a good one

Sorry if this is hijacking, but...

So does anybody have a pic or part number for adjustable clips for a 488....never heard of them till now, might be interested.

Thanks

Fred

Here is a link to a New Holland brochure with a 488 and a pic on page 6 of the adjustable hold downs.

We've got the adjustable ones on our Hesston 1014+2, but they rust up after a while so I've snapped the bolts off on one or 2. Would need to break out the torch to be able to adjust them like they're designed. That said, when they aren't rusted tight, they're pretty nice.

I should add, that I got a full replacement sickle and guards all from Webb's Sickle Service. Good guy, good parts, and good prices.
