Allis Chalmers #2 plow

Had a real nice 2 bottom Allis #2 plow on steel wheels given to me. Having trouble with the ground trip! It trips down just fine, but when I try to trip it up, the ground wheel slides and jumps for quite a distance before it will finish the trip and lock. Is there something that needs adjusting?

First question is do you have the knobs (luggs) on the lift wheel? It needs something to grip with. After that clean and lube.

Yes it does have knobs on wheels. I was tripping it with the levers set so the plow would not enter the ground as I was just trying to loosen everything up. If I actually plow will that make a difference?

Was the plow plowing a good loking furrow?

Where do you have the levers set? Low, Midway< all the way up the notches?

Check the spring on the trip lever. If it is too weak, the plow will kick itself out of lock OR engage and hop in and out, up and down. The spring must be loose enough that you can easily pull it, but tight enough that it holds the plow int whichever setting you have it in.

Pull the clutch apart and clean the crap out of it. There in not anything you can't deal with inside. Grease it good when your done. Every one I have taken apart the old grease and dirt was hard in areas that had to be chipped out with a screwdriver. I had to put a large washer behind the hub on one. After it is clean you can tell if the hub slides on farther than it should. Some take up on the front under the cap.

Put the levers 2/3s the way up and see what it does.
I wouldn't think that the levers being down would negitivly effect the operation of the plow.
DID YOU look at the trip lever while operating the plow to see that it stayed in either locked in or out while moving?
