Bedding Chopper Questions

I've been thinking about getting a bedding chopper for chopping small square bales of straw for chicken bedding. Got a lot of straw this year and would like to use that instead of wood shavings. Never having used a bedding chopper, how fine will the "average" chopper cut straw? For example, are we talking 2 inch long pieces or 1/2-inch pieces? I'd like it as fine as possible for chicken bedding.

We used one for years,it'll make it from what I remember in the 2-4" range the way we ran it. I bet if you have the grate raised higher than we did and have the bale turning slower it would make it as short as you'd like it. Be careful not to point it towards anyone/animals or anything breakable because of flying stones. Makes a lot of dust/dirt too but they work well
