Straighten a JD 594 Hay Rake wheel

Hello Everyone,

Just picked up a ground driven 594 Hay Rake and one of the front tall wheels is bent. Any suggestions on how I would go about straightening / trueing this spoked steel wheel.

Thanks Gimpl

How bad is it bent? Just a couple of inches wabble or like one I have to replace on a New Idea rim bent so it is 2' out. If just a couple of inches just use it. More may or may not be straghtenable. How is it bent, one side one direction , both sides same direction, both sides opposite direction? If you would need a different wheel where are you located?

Gonna take some heat. Cut it apart.Clamp the rim to an good wheel. Heat and bend, clamp.tack weld till 'true'. Straighten each spoke. Weld it back together.Depending upon your 'iron working' abilitys,it may be easier to buy another wheel.

As Leroy says,if it's only out a few inches, just run it. If it's really mangled,do as I said above,or replace it.

Depending on how it is bent at times they can be straightened just with something like a portapower or even just a cable puller.

I agree with the others. I would think a low cost come-a-long (cable puller) from Harbor Freight or the fleemarket with some careful wedging (chaining) of the rake to trees or other large equipment should get the wheel close enough to use.
