home made cultipacker

the baler

Member
Does anyone have any good ideas or designs for a home made cultipacker? I just tilled up a small meadow and broadcast some sorghum seed. It seems as though there is a bunch of " trash". I'm worried about this when it comes time to cut and bale............

Define "trash"? If you are talking about mowing leftovers, let the sorghum mature, set the cut, rake, and bale implement pickups above the trash
and be about your business. Other solution is to roll it over into the sod, but you already planted so the first suggestion applies.

A row of old tires on a big steel pipe
is what I use. Got the idea from
someone on here. Seal the ends and you
can fill it with water to give it
weight. I used a 16 inch diameter pipe
with 17 inch tires.

I built one one time by using a piece of corrugated plastic pipe like the picture 12 inch diameter. Then I took A stick of 2 in steel pipe and centered it inside then filled with concrete. Then I built a frame off of the center pipe with swivels ands such. Works pretty good for me. But heavy for transport.

My grandpa built a "roller" by mounting about 20 old iron mowing machine wheels on a shaft, and a wooden framework with long tongue and weight box above. It was originally built for a team of horses, but tongue got shortened for use with tractors.
