John Deere 435 Round Baler Net wrap

I am having a significant amount of trouble with the net wrap on my JD 435 baler wrapping around the rubber roll just beneath the roll of net wrap instead of going onto the bale. I have replaced the brake pad that stops the rolls when the wrapping is done. Also local JD dealer said to make sure the pan on bottom of baler is clean- did that. We have tried different kinds of net wrap and some work better than others. Seems like the problem is worst when starting a new roll of net wrap. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Check to make sure the guide pan under the belts is up snug to let the belts "pinch" the net and help it pull on to the bale

Check the rubber roll real close. If someone cut mesh off it and put a cut in the rubber, the roll is junk. That small cut will grab the mesh wrap and wind it up just about every single time. The "new" roll of wrap pulls harder and will make a cut or cracked roll grab the mesh worse.

You need to be using talc powered. It is much finer than corn starch. You need more when the humidity is higher.

Also check and see how sharp the knife is. If it is too dull it will leave tails too long and they will make the rubber roll wrap worse.

What the dealer meant on the bottom pan is it needs to be SHINY and smooth. It here is any rust or rough areas it will keep the mesh from going down to the bottom correctly.

Are your belts worn out??? If they do not have much of the diamond pattern left in them they will not pull the mesh down the bottom pan very well and the mesh will ball up and wrap the rubber starting roll.

Walk beside the bailer and watch when it wraps a bale. If the Brake does not stop the roll fast enough it will throw a pile of mesh in behind the knife and then that will bunch and wrap the roll when the next bale goes to start.

Mesh wrapping the rubber roll is a head ache for sure. It can usually be cured by checking things over real well. A little rust in the wrong place and it will not work right.

This info repairing rubber roller is in my JD 467 rd baler operators manual regarding cuts on rubber feed roller. I've never attempted to repair a cut in rubber roller.

I'm not stating talc powder isn't needed but I rarely put talc powder on my balers surface wrap rubber feed roller.

Ditto on checking surface wrap guide clearance & condition.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I now have some new ideas to check out.

Where did you pyrchase the wrap? I bought so cheap stuff once and it never worked right at all, went to Deere and never had a problem. Be sure the roll is not in the wrong way.(don't ask how I know!)

I am ivor from uk and last week we had contractor in with round baler and he was having big trouble with net as it was evening his wife went to get a new roll of net from another contractor when the roll was changed there was no more problems ... a few days later I was talking to him and he said that he had been talking with another contractor some way off and he said that there is a local fitter who is good with balers and when he goes to a baler with problems the first thing he does is to change roll of net and a lot of times this solves problem .. he always carrys spare net in his van

I had purchasing the net wrap from the local Deere dealer. I am now using a much more inexpensive wrap made in Finland. The cheaper stuff is less problem than the wrap from Deere dealer, but still having some problems.
