NH BR 740 twine problems

I was just round baling the other day was going from one ball of twine to another (on one side) and the knot pulled apart. Tried a different brand of twine and it wouldn't feed into the bale. So I went back to the same brand of twine that is on the other side that always starts, and it won't feed in either. Its like the twine end is too short or something and the bale won't catch it. I never had this problem before. The one side never misses, but I can't get the twine to feed in on the one side. I had to get off the tractor for every bale and stuff the twine into the bale for it to pick the twine up. Any suggestions?

I think that needle is about the same as my 644. Put the needles in and stop the baler. There is a little spring loaded 'bullet' on each end. There should be a bolt on each to remove it from the needle arm. Cut the twine above the needle, then switch the bullets and retie the twine, start the baler and complete the tying cycle. You should be good to go.

The twine moving thru the round nose wears on one side. The bullet holds the twine after tying and keeps it in the nose when the needles go in. When that round nose gets worn, it gets a groove cut in one side where the twine runs, and allows it to retract backward when the needles trip in, and gets just a bit short of catching into the bale. By switching sides, the twine will now pull on the opposite side. It should be good for another 30,000 bales or so....

That makes perfect sense. It seems like I have to pull a little harder on the twine on that side to get the twine out. If it had a groove worn in that little "bullet" thing, that sure would make it pull a little harder.

You are a smart man! Thanks a bunch!

You shouldn't have to pull harder- that bullet just holds the twine from pulling back through the needle end. When that groove gets worn in, the bullet is not holding the twine, so it pulls easier....

By the way, I ain't thet smart- it took me some time ta fiiger tht sealution ouy.....like a coppla months......
