Is it true to only put one bolt to hold the "wood deck" of a hay wagon to the metal uprights? There are 4 uprights on the running gear, but I was told to just bolt to one in front and put a chain over the back....I guess all to allow for flex. Seems like a a lot of weight and load but I guess the deck really shouldn't be going too far.

Thanks, Mike

I bolt the back two beams and cable the front with enough slack that it will not go higher than the upright.

I rebuilt one wagon, it is bolted on all four corners. One wagon I bought, bolted on all 4 corners. One wagon I bought, bolted - 2 at the rear, chain over the front.

I can't tell any advantage to either way of holding on the deck.

I prefer chain with enough room for a little flex on all 4 corners. Deck may slide an inch or so forward and back, but chains allow movement on rough ground, as well as some of my fields only have access through the road ditches, etc.

Always had all 4 corners bolted. As far as twist going over rough ground empty it will just lift a tire. Loaded it will do the twist to keep weight on all four corners if it is not fastened at all so that is not an argument that to me will stand up about bolting only partially because of twist.

We put angle iron behind the front beam on the gear and in front of the back beam and chain opposite corners but nothing here is level so it flexes a lot
