OEM vs Aftermarket Guards

Looking to refurb the cutterbar and in particular, the guards on my Hesston 1110. Going with stub guards.

Question is - any appreciable difference between OEM guards and sickles vs aftermarket sources like Shoup's or Webb's Sickle Service? Not sure I trust TSC stuff.

Don't mind spending the $$$'s on OEM - IF there truly is a tangible difference in durability and quality of cut.

Thanks,
Bill

I buy most of my sickle bar stuff form my local Orscheln's farm and home store and have not had any problem with there stuff. There stuff is probably made by the same company that makes stuff for TSC

I buy a lot of stuff from Shoup. Never had any problem with quality.Used their gards(among other things) for years. In fact, just last month I ordered a complete set of gards(and sections) from them for my NH 499 swather.Any order over $200.00 is freight free.

My experience with TSC stuff not terribly durable. Finally bought a DRUM mower. Much less maintenance. Cheaper too. Stones and ground mole hills are your enemy.

I have used TSC guards for my sickle bar/ditch cutting mower. They switched to casting them in China, and now they're not compatible with the others! I have to grind some off these newer guards to get them to match up. Or I'll have to buy ALL new guards and replace them all at once.

I agree with Steve's recommendation. Buy from Shoup.

Bought guards from Tsc and John Deere for my 37 sickle bar mower only difference was the Tsc guards were green and the Ones from John Deere were Black Both made in China and there was green paint under the black .

When my youngest worked at TSC that's where mine came from. Hershel brand. Went to Rural King and got a couple.Hershel. Bought 10 at Louisville Farm Show from Shoup. Good as the others. I buy from whoever has them on sale. They either come from India or China.Back in the days of ledger plates we always bought OEM,but not anymore.

Good Luck.

maybe it's just me or pain bad luck i have bought rock guards at farm&fleet no more i will go to john deere dealer
my neighbor Le Roy has had similar experience with his new holland he told me he just goes to new holland dealer

I bought some new guards from Deere. Different, black and did not fit well at twice the price. I bought some from Webb's which were good but their shipping is a rip off. Maybe try Shoup next time.

Are you sure you bought the correct guards? There is two makes that I know of (cannot remember makes ) but you cannot see the difference in looking at them but they will not interchange with others, I am guessing that you unknowingly bought the wrong guards and that it why you are having to grind them.
